Fighting Antibiotic resistance Takes All of Us

U.S. Antibiotic Awareness Week (November 18–24) is dedicated to increasing awareness among the public and healthcare professionals about the serious threat of antibiotic resistance and the importance of responsible antibiotic use. This year, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) is highlighting key areas of unnecessary antibiotic use and encouraging healthcare providers to share the following resources with patients, caregivers, and healthcare teams to support safe and appropriate antibiotic use.

Resources to Share With Patients

Resources for Clinicians

  • Antibiotic Stewardship: Implementing or Strengthening Your Program
    • Improving how antibiotics are prescribed is key to fighting antimicrobial resistance. The CDC’s Core Elements for Antibiotic Stewardship Programs (ASPs) help healthcare facilities promote appropriate antibiotic use. The Core Elements offer clear, flexible standards that can be adapted to different healthcare settings and align with IDSA, SHEA, ASHP, SIDP, and The Joint Commission.
  • DPH Antibiotic Stewardship Webpage
    • New resources on the webpage include the LA County Antibiotic Use Dashboard, a resource guide for urinary tract infections in long-term care residents, and a webinar recording about how one LA County emergency department successfully implemented penicillin allergy delabeling.

Thank you for your continued partnership in promoting responsible antibiotic use and protecting our community’s health.
